Hiking Tours for Women

We’ve been guiding women through Iceland’s highlands since 2013, and we still think the best way to see this country is on foot, in a small group, with a guide who grew up walking these trails. Every women’s hiking tour in Iceland we run has a maximum of 12 women and an Icelandic woman guide who cooks your dinner, reads the weather and knows exactly where the river is shallowest.

The Laugavegur Trail is Iceland’s most famous hike, and for good reason: rhyolite mountains in every colour, steaming geothermal fields, black sand deserts, glacial river crossings and a finish in the birch forests of Þórsmörk. Our Laugavegur Classic covers it in six days, sleeping in mountain huts, with your main luggage carried between huts so you only hike with a daypack. If you want the trail plus the icons, the 10-day Laugavegur, Golden Circle & South Coast tour adds Gullfoss, Geysir, the South Coast waterfalls and Diamond Beach.

Three days in Þórsmörk gives you ridge hikes above Eyjafjallajökull without committing to a full trek. Víknaslóðir, the Trails of the Inlets in East Iceland, is five days of remote fjords, rhyolite mountains and black sand beaches that most visitors never see. Both run in small groups with the same hut-based, everything-cooked-for-you set-up.

Our hiking tours are rated moderate to challenging. Days are long, terrain is varied and the weather changes its mind hourly. You need good fitness and, for the multi-day treks, some previous hiking experience. In return you get highland rivers you can drink from, huts full of laughter and a group of women who will cheer you across every river crossing.
