Frequently asked questions
While some of our guides are multi-lingual, all our tours are conducted in English.
Your scheduled small-group tours are designed for women travelers. Private tours can be arranged for all genders.
Absolutely! Many of our guests join our tours as solo travelers, so you’ll be in great company. Our small-group tours are designed to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, making it easy to connect with like-minded women along the way.
Yes, absolutely! Viking Women is proudly LGBTQ+ friendly. We welcome women from all backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment where everyone can feel comfortable being themselves.
No! While Iceland is our home and the heart of Viking Women, we also offer adventures in Greenland. For now, Iceland and Greenland are our two destinations, but we’re always looking for new places to explore — and Norway and the Faroe Islands are currently on our radar for the future!
The activity level varies from tour to tour. Some of our trips are relaxed and suitable for most fitness levels, while others include full days of hiking and require good physical fitness and endurance.
Each tour has information about its activity level and what to expect, so we recommend reading the tour description carefully before booking. If you’re unsure whether a particular tour is the right fit for you, please reach out — we’re always happy to help you choose the adventure that suits you best.
Yes! We offer private tours for couples, families, groups of friends, companies, and other groups. Unlike our scheduled small-group tours, which are exclusively for women, our private tours are open to everyone.
We can also tailor the itinerary to your group’s interests, activity level, and travel style. Get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help create the perfect Iceland adventure for your group.
We understand that unexpected things can happen. Our standard cancellation policy still applies in cases of illness, injury, or other emergencies, which is why we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance when you book your tour.
Yes, no problem. If you’re unable to travel, we allow you to transfer your booking to someone else by changing the name on the reservation. This can be a great alternative if you need to cancel but have a friend or family member who would like to take your place.
Please contact us as soon as possible so we can assist with the name change and make sure we have the correct information for the new traveler.
In the unlikely event that Viking Women has to cancel a tour, you will receive a full refund of all payments made to us for the tour.
Not necessarily! If you’re happy to share a twin room with another solo traveler, there is no single supplement. We’ll pair you with another woman on the tour who has also selected the shared-room option.
If you prefer to have your own room, you can book a single room for an additional single supplement, subject to availability.
For our Iceland tours, you should fly into Keflavík International Airport (KEF), Iceland’s main international airport, located about 45 minutes from Reykjavík.
Please note that Reykjavík Domestic Airport (RKV) is a different airport and is mainly used for domestic flights within Iceland.
Getting from Keflavík International Airport (KEF) to Reykjavík is easy. The most popular option is the airport shuttle bus, with regular departures timed around arriving flights. The journey takes approximately 45–60 minutes.
You can also take a taxi or arrange a private airport transfer.
You can bring one suitcase or travel bag per person, along with one small daypack.
As luggage space in our vehicles can be limited, we kindly ask that you avoid bringing oversized luggage or additional bags whenever possible.
We always aim to follow the itinerary as described, but when traveling in Iceland, a little flexibility is sometimes necessary! Weather, road conditions, safety considerations, and other circumstances beyond our control may require us to adjust the itinerary.
Our guides will always make decisions with your safety and overall experience in mind, and if changes are necessary, we’ll do our best to provide the best possible alternative.
Yes. All of our guides are experienced professionals and hold the certifications required for the tours they lead. Depending on the type of tour, this may include wilderness first aid, hiking and outdoor safety qualifications, as well as the appropriate driving licenses.
Safety is always a priority, and our guides are experienced in Icelandic conditions, changing weather, and the environments in which our tours take place.
Not really! Iceland is largely cashless, and credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, including cafés, restaurants, shops, gas stations, and even in many remote areas.
However, we do recommend having a little cash with you if you’d like to buy one of our Viking Women T-shirts during the tour or leave a tip for your guide
Oh yes. Iceland is generally considered a very safe destination for solo female travelers, and many women travel here independently every year.
As with anywhere in the world, it’s always a good idea to use normal travel precautions. In Iceland, the biggest safety considerations are often not crime, but the natural environment — such as rapidly changing weather, strong winds, rough seas, and challenging road or hiking conditions.
Yes — at Icelandic public swimming pools, you’re expected to shower thoroughly without your swimsuit before entering the pool. This is an important part of Icelandic swimming-pool hygiene and completely normal here!
Most public pools have communal showers, although some offer private shower cubicles. At tourist-focused geothermal lagoons, the facilities and rules can vary, and private showers may be available.
Don’t worry — Icelanders are very used to this, and after your first visit, you probably won’t give it a second thought!
